The lack of research reproducibility has caused growing concern across various scientific fields. Today, there is widespread agreement, within and outside academia, that scientific research is suffering from a reproducibility crisis. As we continue to recognize this problematic situation, some major causes of irreproducible research have been identified. This, in turn, provides the foundation for improvement by identifying and advocating for good research practices (GRPs). The selection of 10 simple rules is based on our experiences at the University of Zurich with teaching trans-disciplinary GRP courses and collaborating within the field of clinical and preclinical research.

Key learnings:

  • The lack of research reproducibility has caused concern across various scientific fields
  • Cross-disciplinary courses in good research practice (GRP) provide the foundation for improvement
  • Much can be learnt from a systematic comparison of different disciplines
